Your knee meniscus is a band of cartilage that separates thigh bone (femur) from your shin bone (tibia). Each knee has two menisci, called medial meniscus and a lateral meniscus. One is at the outer edge of the knee and one at the inner edge. The meniscus helps keep your knee steady by balancing your weight across the knee. A torn meniscus can prevent your knee from working right.
